homesick

It is days like today with clouds and rain darkening the sky that I feel homesick. Although the clouds/rain in the UK are much darker it is still a reminder. After all of the years I have been in Southern California I still miss the seasons; Autumn with all of the leaves turning from a light gold to a deep burning red. Winter with the excitement (for Southern England) waking up especially on Christmas morning with a fresh white blanket of snow however it was not fun when the snow turned to slush then freeze making walking a "sliding" battle. Oh but then Spring with the trees sprouting their beautiful green leaves. What a lovely sight to walk through the woods and see primroses and bluebells popping their heads. Gardens with the crocuses and dafodils to name just a few spring flowers.

Well, I will go back to my happy memories for one more day as tomorrow the sun will beat down on us again although not as hot as the "summer" sun but it will still be "summer" to me.

Groomer

Yesterday was our dog Monte's visit to the groomer. Anyone living in the Culver City area should try the new grooming place called Pet City Grooming - owned and operated by Jason; located at 10752 Jefferson Blvd., Culver City (corner of Overland and Jefferson). Monte and Jason became friend's just after Memorial Day in 2005. My husband and I rescued Monte from the Amanda Foundation and he was a little dirty so we went to Petco to have him bathed. We spoke to the groomer and instantly liked his the way he handled Monte on that first visit; from then on we would not let anyone else groom him.

Monte says: "Jason rocks".

People Watching

I love to people watch - I was doing some people watching this morning while waiting for someone and noticed several things regarding dress styles for both men and women.

Mini skirts were great in the 60's/70's. I loved them with the "hot pants" and wore them; of course I was 105lbs and 5' 4" with fortunately good legs. Today I noticed that females who were probably close to 150 lbs wearing mini skirts which were shorter in the back due to the weight and it looked terrible. If the skirts were worn a little longer by the heavier female it would be fine. Also females who are a little bit "older" with "older" legs definitely should not where a mini skirt. I am of "mature" years with still good looking legs (I am told) and could wear a mini skirt but it is not the correct style for my years.

Now to the subject of the young men; pants with the crotch down to the knees I think are funny. I have watched and found that the young men tend to walk with rather a strange "gait", almost like females walking in a pencil slim skirt below the knees, known in the late 50's and early 60's as a "tight" skirt.

One thing that made my morning of people watching worth while was that almost every person walking past me and my dog Monte said "Good Morning" and some stopped to exchange a few other pleasant comments; this proves that there are still good manors in people of all ages.

Creating a blog

Creating my blog is still a work in progress. I am reasonably computer literate however to create a blog I am needing to learn another area of computer language. I am in my "mature" years and stubborn therefore I will not let it get the better of me.

I am self taught in my computer skills - excel/word and various other programes, therefore I feel I can conquer the art of "blogging".

Stay tuned for further musings. Maybe I will be discovered through my blog as "Julie" did in "Julie and Julia". Good movie.
